Thank you for wanting to help out! Our Friends Calendar shows four types of events we do each year that you can help at.
1. Park Visitor Events
We work to give visitors fun outdoor adventures and creative stage performances by setting up the venue, welcoming participants and helping in any way we can. Some of these events include our Music in the Park summer concert series, Halloween Candlelight Hike, Winter Candlelight Ski & Hike events, and our annual S’more Fun Trail Run.
2. Friends Workdays
If you like to get outside and work with different projects to help keep the park looking beautiful, then these are your events. Our workdays are typically half a day of very active but not strenuous project work. Some things that we help with around the park are picnic table refurbishing, day use areas and trail cleanup, painting and other improvement projects. Cutting and bundling firewood is another workday activity that we are started up again. Selling firewood is our biggest fundraiser!
3. Organizing For Action
All of our events and projects are possible because of the planning and organizing of our dedicated volunteers. Under the guidance of our Board of Directors, Planning Committees, Project Managers, and voting members, we have become one of the most successful Friends groups for Wisconsin State Parks. We welcome new members that would like to serve on our board and committees.
4. Volunteer Appreciation Days
At least two times a year, we gather for socializing, food, and fun. Typically, we have a summer picnic and a holiday party in December. A potluck has been known to pop-up at workdays too.
Park Naturalist Program (See the Mirror Lake Park web site for events)
Thanks to the funding provided by our Friends group and partners at the Seth Peterson Cottage Conservancy, Walmart and Friends of Wisconsin State Parks, Mirror Lake State Park has a part time Naturalist who offers fun and creative outdoor learning events. If you are interested in helping the Naturalist with programs, please contact the Park to meet with the Naturalist.
